The Scarlett Shrouded Empress Lamp

An absolutely brilliant lamp. Dark, rich red/scarlet tones permeate the wing like lamp shade, rested upon an expertly sculpted base of the empress in a long flowing dress.

The art of stained glass began in Eastern Asia and among Muslim designers, reaching its height in the Middle Ages, particularly 1150-1250. As the style of the solid Romanesque wall passed, the use of glass was greatly expanded upon. Integrated with the lofty verticals of Gothic cathedrals, large windows afforded greater illumination that was regarded as symbolic of divine grace. In the 1800's, Romanticism and the Gothic revival caused renewed interest in stained glass, particularly that of the artist Louis Comfort Tiffany, which we are proud to feature here at Obscuria.

Our pieces are handcrafted using the copper foil construction technique, using hundreds or even thousands of stained art glass pieces encased in a solid brass frame, for a lasting, unique expression. Some of our items were created with the same century old tools and molds used to make lighting products for Tiffany Studios in the early 1900's. This item is guaranteed against any manufacturing defect for life.

Every stained glass item is a unique, handcrafted work of art. Natural variation in the glass and finish make each and every one a masterpiece all its own. Photographs are a general representation of the product. No two pieces of handcrafted work are exactly alike. Glass colors can vary slightly from what you see on your monitor. Ripples, striations, and other irregularities are part of the nature of stained glass and enhance its uniqueness and beauty.
